WP 1: Analytical methods

Extending the knowledge on the comportment of anthropogenic trace substances, using up-to-date analytical methods; and integration of data into a database (DAIOS)

WP 2: Processes / technical procedures

Laboratory and pilot-scale investigation on the adsorption of organics onto activated carbon, as well as tests on organics ozonation/oxidation in partly closed water cycles

WP 3: Eco-toxicological effects and substantial evaluation

Gathering information on eco-toxicological effects of trace substances, and human bio-monitoring to evaluate and minimize potential hazards and risks

WP 4: Risk perception and behaviour

Establishing comprehensive understanding of risk perception, risk awareness, and behavior of water consumers, as well as identification of related impacting factors on the basis of theoretical and empirical results in social sciences

WP 5: Process assessment

Comparison of technological and natural barriers for trace substance removal, using life cycle assessment and cost analysis; the assessment encompasses technological alternatives for trace substance minimization

WP 6: Risk management

Development of a comprehensive and adapted risk management system; presentation of results in panels and professional associations; recommendations for the transfer of results to other regions/water suppliers

WP 7/8: Project results, project management
